I thought I was getting a steal grabbing him off the FA in this 16-team HooHaa league. But in his first start for me, he gave up eight runs (five earned) in 3 1/3. Although he had 9Ks and a no-decision on opening day, the more this Pirate pitches, the more I think his 2.98-ERA, 239-K 2004 might be the anomaly, not last year's 5.85 and 97. The deadly words "lost velocity" have been associated with OP.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, strikeout machine Oliver Perez could start a rehab assignment soon.

Don't rush him back into your lineup, though; wait and see how his first Pirates outing goes, since he struggled mightily at the start of this season.
