Schmidt still isn't putting up the numbers his owners have come to expect over the past few years. However, he has sill been a solid fantasy contributor and is putting up very nice strikeout numbers.

For now, I'm taking him at face value. However, a trade to a contender could be in the works shortly and might affect his fantasy value significantly.

Jason Schmidt has thrown 465 pitches in his past 24 innings and has 0 wins to show for it.

Schmidt's numbers have been less than what fantasy owners have come to expect so far this season.

Sounds like Schmidty's a little rusty. From the AP:

Quote:
Schmidt allowed 10 runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. He had given up one run in his first 10 innings this spring.

"I was hoping the game would be played under protest," Schmidt said jokingly. "This might cost me the ERA title."

Eric Chavez and Bobby Kielty each hit a three-run homer and Erubiel Durazo had a two-run shot off Schmidt, whose ERA was 0.90 entering the game.

"I felt the same way I felt all spring," Schmidt said. "I've got half a pitch right now and that's the fastball to the right side. I had to keep throwing the changeup. I'm trying to get a feel for it. It's just not there yet but it will come. I'm not getting any sharper and until it comes it will probably be more of the same."
