Mo Hockey, Mo Hockey, Mo Hockey
Written by Dr Furious on October 14, 2005
Top o’ the morning to ya. Furious is back with a l’il something for you hockey fiends out there. Hopefully this short little ditty will take the edge off. The rotogods recently held the live draft for The Road 2 17, which happens to be the ‘Gods fantasy basketball league. You would think that someone here at our lovely website would be able to write a little recap. If you all are expecting that to happen, do not hold your breath. Our lovely and unemployed editor in chief would be a good candidate (big round of applause for XachStalin lady and gents), but he cannot even find the time to update a Furious bio picture. Time flies when you are unemployed.
Since there is not a link on our site for hockey updates … guess what? You get the luxury of a reading such quality work the front page today. Maybe if our EIC (another round of applause for my man XachStalin) could create a link, then you would find this info over there. Since this is my second time writing this exact same piece (computer complications), I am gonna go ahead and keep it real brief.
Rick Nash
Nash is scheduled to come off of the IR today, but he did not make the road trip out west for games against San Jose, Anaheim, and Los Angeles. The next game that the Jackets will play at home will be a week from today, against the Sharks, and this is the game that Nash will likely return.
Fury’s Take Nash owners should be relieved to hear the news. The league’s leading goal scorer last full season has only appeared in one game, the opener against Washington. Owners will be looking to for Nash to get back so he can do what he does best … score. If Rick does not return to the lineup a week from today, hit the panic button.
Joe Thorton
Thorton was forced to leave the game against Tampa Bay on the 10th and has since returned to Boston. He will most likely miss the rest of the roadie that Boston is on, but will hopefully be back on the ice when the team returns to the Fleet, Garden, or whatever the hell they are calling that damn building. If that does end up being the case, look for Thornton on the 20th, which is about a 6 days from today.
Fury’s Take: A combination of phrases no fantasy owner likes to hear. Those being: his/her player + back spasms. While it looks like Joey will be fine, owners will want to play close attention to the situation. It may not be a bad idea to deal the center now, when the going price may still be fairly high.
Owen Nolan
The contract dispute between Toronto and Nolan just keeps escalating like a kid in an elevator. The NHLPA has not stepped in filing a grievance on behalf of Nolan for nonpayment of 5.6 million dollars. The dispute is based on knee, Owen’s right knee to be exact, which Toronto claims was injured in non-hockey related activities. Nolan obviously disagrees and wants his damn money.
Fury’s Take: There may be a couple of questions you have at this juncture.
1) Is Nolan worth a spot on your roster?
A) Probably not unless you are desperate for penalty minutes (Nolan had 110 last season).
2) Is this newsworthy?
A) Well duh … the article is about fantasy hockey and this is obviously relevant.
3) Why am I reporting about this?
A) I am that desperate guy that needs penalty minutes, and since I did the research, you get to do the reading.
Well, I guess Furious will put a bow on this biatch right about there. I hope you enjoyed what you read. Maybe, by the time you read this, there will be a nice new picture of yours truly up in the corner. I highly doubt it, but anything is possible. Have a great weekend everyone, and try to keep it hate-free. If you cannot, I understand.
