The Fool sez: Get your read on

Written by The Fool on October 05, 2005

This will be short but hopefully sweet today, as The Fool’s Internet connection is one again fouled up. The zillionth Cox Cable Guy is coming out this morning to take a look at it before telling me he can’t fix it and they’ll have to do some digging. If you were in a Fantasy Cable Company League, Cox would be a last-round pick at this point. It doesn’t even have MASN!

So I’ll have you do what The Fool is doing, since he can’t surf the Web all damn day (except when stealing a wireless connection from an unwittingly generous neighbor): Read.

With so many Beantowners among the Rotogods, Bill Simmons, ESPN.com’s Sports Guy, comes up quite a bit. I like his stuff, though he certainly has his critics. One of them, Scott at the Boston Sports Media Watch, had a Simmonsesque e-mail exchange with the Sports Guy and turned it into a “behind the scenes look at the man.” It’s an interesting if not so eloquent read, especially if you’re a fan of the man’s work.

Don’t worry, Fantasy Foolsciples, I’m not forgetting about you. Head on over to visit our friends at the Phat Phree. They make fun of you, and The Fool laughed. And The Fool never thought he’d laugh at something to do with Ernie Conwell.

Deadspin.com is getting a lot of Web buzz, and it probably should since it’s the latest venture of the Gawker Media Empire – aka the same people who bring you my dearest Wonkette. Deadspin, a sports blog, isn’t as cool as Wonkette, but hey, what is?

And finally, Richard Justice (you’ve probably seen him on PTI a number of times hamming it up with his buddies Kornheiser and Wilbon) pens an interesting piece for his paper, the Houston Chronicle. Seems earlier in the season, when the Houston Astros were 19-32, the newspaper ran a tombstone on its cover declaring the season over. Now, the scribe wants credit for motivating the Astros.

Too bad the Astros are about to get swept by America’s Team.

Enjoy another day of playoff baseball.
