The Morning Offering: Subterranean Edition

It’s a busy time in the fantasy sports world. The NFL is now in full swing, the NHL is about to begin, and the NBA is just around the corner. Fantasy players have multiple teams to tend to, and still more drafts to prepare for.

And there’s still four days left in the baseball season.

That’s right, there’s still such a thing as fantasy baseball. Of course, there is little or no useful fantasy advice a Rotogod could give a fantasy baseball player right now, since most leagues’ fates have already been decided, and I can’t really say which player is going to break out in the next four days. Plus, if you’re still in competition for the top spot, you should have a pretty good idea what you’re doing by now. All I can say is, don’t waste a day! Get your players into your lineup.

Our premier Rotogods baseball league is having an unexpectedly exciting finish. Usually at this time of year, Junky has put the league away a couple of months ago, but this year it has been wide open. Ape has dominated the last month of the season, but in the last couple of weeks, Beagle has been charging up the standings, and now stands just half a point behind Ape, in second place. Unbelievable.

What does this remind me of? Hmm. Oh yeah, that’s right, Yankees-Red Sox! This should be a great weekend, both for our Rotogods baseball league and for the American League East. For all the troubles these two formerly dominant franchises have had this year, the Yanks and Sox turn out once again to be exceedingly well matched. You get the feeling that in a few years they’ll be tied on the last day of the season and be playing a game to decide fourth place.

For the Red Sox, this means their chance to defend their championship. Having won once, the second win is all the sweeter. Believe me, I know, I’m a Yankee fan. By the fourth win, it starts to get a little old, but that second win is priceless. For the Yankees, making it to October means a chance to placate the Big Baby, and maybe have some of the same players on the team next year. So this is big stuff. And, oh yeah, don’t be counting on the Wild Card as your fallback plan.

This Worm plans on watching plenty of Yanks-Sox this weekend. And as for that great Ape-Beagle race… well, it’s hard to imagine a Beagle outrunning an Ape, but stranger things have happened, I guess. Happy drafting, everybody.

Fool, I don't really see the Braves beating the wild card team. Regardless of who it is.
