Stupid Questions and the Playoff Race

Written by Dr Furious on August 26, 2005

Everywhere I go, people be asking me stupid questions like:

“Why are you so mad?” and

“What are you so mad about?”

Well let me tell you why I’m mad. First of all, my Matrix baseball team is just good enough not to win. In a very controversial move, Furious traded Derrek Lee down the stretch of the season, mainly for pitching help and an additional closer. As anticipated my hitting categories have declined, but I have yet to pick up any points in a couple of pitching categories (specifically ERA and WHIP) I desperately needed some help in. For this reason alone, I may lose the Matrix. I do not like it … at all.

The New York Metropolitans
Like Furious’ fantasy baseball team, the Mets are playing well but not well enough to make the playoffs. I have enjoyed watching Pedro pitch for N.Y. all season long, and have wanted to commit glorious Jihad every time I see Carlos Beltran at the plate. What a waste of good money that guy is. Is there anyone in the MLB making more for doing less? At least the Big (ERA) Unit has won eleven games this year. He is not nearly robbing the Yankees as much Beltran is pilfering the Mets.

So I know you were probably expecting a little more analysis on the playoffs. I will not disappoint, I just had to deal with a few things first.

Question: Which team probably had the largest affect on the outcome of the AL playoff race over the last week?

Answer:

The Kansas City Royals
That is correct folks, the Royals are swinging hot bats as of late, and have been wreaking havoc for potential AL playoff teams. Fresh off taking two out of three from Oaktown (and making Doc some money in Vegas … the under was lock coming in at 7.5 with Zito on the mound), what does Kansas City do for an encore performance? They take two out of three from the Boston Red Sox. The result: Oakland is now 2.5 games back in the West and Boston’s lead in AL East has been reduced to the same margin. Who does Kansas City play tonight? You guessed it … The New York Yankees. Could we possibly see three straight series wins for the Royals?

Well lady (Shout out goes to Ms. The Fool) and Gentlemen, I hope you enjoyed the ruminations of the Doctor this afternoon. I really planned on having this done a lot earlier. Somehow my one-hour nap turned into a five-hours of deep sleep. It is funny how that works. I may have done a little hating today, but the gloves came off last week. An attempt will be made to get back to those nice, hate-free days at some point, because those were good days. Have a great weekend everyone, and do not do anything I would not do. If you do, don’t get caught.
