Keeping Hate-free Hope Alive

Written by Dr Furious on July 01, 2005

It would not be a Friday morning if there were not plenty of reasons to hate. We have people mailing in their daily updates, editors in cheifs (misspelled on purpose folks, you do not ever want to be a cheif) who procrastinate on articles, and other rotogods not producing material after expressing their intent to do so. The options this morning are endless, but, once again, it is Friday.

The first rule of fight club is, “There will be no hating on Friday.”
The second rule of fight club is, “THERE WILL BE NO HATING ON FRIDAY!”

So with that, I will proceed to drop some fantasy sport knowledge. Since half of my squad is injured, I might as well do some injury updates. No haikus, no movie quotes, just some good ole fantasy baseball updates. Now I know what you are thinking … “I swore that Rotogods.com had a player update section on the site.” Well you would be correct, but today you get it on the front page. If you do not like it, then go read the newspaper, start brewing and drinking your coffee, or go walk your cat. These are just a few suggestions to occupy your time.

Mark Loretta
Good news for Loretta owners: the cast removed has been removed from his left thumb. Even better news, a tentative return date of July 19th has been set.

Fury’s take: This is considerably earlier than the return date set when the injury first occurred. I think that Loretta will not quite be ready by the 19th and his actual return date will fall somewhere after that date and before August 1st.

Josh Beckett
Beckett was activated from the disabled list last night, just in time to face the Hotlanta Braves. He allowed just one hit, throwing six very strong innings. Beckett was taken out in the seventh inning for precautionary measures.

Fury’s take: It looks like Beckett is good to go. Those in daily leagues will want to get him back in the fold. For weekly leagues, make sure you get Beckett back in your rotation ASAP. If you pitched Beckett last night, you are a smart individual. I, on the other hand, did not and, therefore, am a dumbass.

Kerry Wood
Wood came back Wednesday night and, like Beckett, he pitched six strong innings as well. Wood only surrendered two hits and fanned nine batters.

Fury’s take: It appears that Wood is also good to go. The bad news for Wood owners is that you are now T-minus and counting until his next injury. Enjoy the starts while they last. If you are trying to ensure that Wood does not get hurt again, I suggest prayer or enlisting the magical services of Nicole Kidman.

On a side note, I was not really feeling Kidman for the reinvention of classic sitcom, mainly because I felt that she looked nothing like Elizabeth Montgomery. Well until I found the following link of course. Elizabeth Montgomery

Scroll all the way down to the bottom and the picture of Elizabeth with brown hair looks exactly like Kidman. But I digress…

Melvin Mora
Mora sat out again last night, for the eighth straight game. The bright side is that he is running and batting in practice and should return to the field soon. A trip to the DL just might be avoided after all.

Fury’s take: Two words: Guarded Optimism. Mora has yet to run full speed in any of these workouts. The Orioles have not done well with Mora out of the lineup, so the pressure is on to get him back in the fold. I would be very surprised if you see him play before Monday. If you have another option at third, use it this weekend.

Alright true believers, I think that this is enough to get you started on your day. Once again I give you a daily update free of hate. If you disagree, we can have an email battle about it. Hit me up a docfury@rotogods.com. Furious is off to the gym and then home for a nap. If Worm makes the trip up this evening, then Furious will definitely have to show him what Boston has to offer (the answer, of course, is not much). Otherwise, I will be keeping it low key this evening. Last weekend was a tough one, and tomorrow brings prospects of some wiffle ball, basketball, and a gang of the High Life. You know the rules for today folks. It is always in your best interests to abide. Have a great weekend.
