The Morning Offering - June 17, 2005
Written by Dr Furious on June 17, 2005
Doctor Furious learned a very important and valuable lesson last night: Drinking beer can sometimes make you sleepy. I would love to include more details than that, but unfortunately I cannot. I would hate for some hater that I work with to direct my superiors to this site to discover how much of a degenerate I am. I am awake now, attempting to get you all ready to get out that door. Normally I just post random topics because I am searching for a format that I like. So this week, I will make it more dichotomous. So we begin with …
THE ROTO
Mike Sweeney
News flash! Mike Sweeney is hurt.
My take: Get him out of your lineup and expect more injuries when he does return
ARod
As much as I hate ARod for in general, and in particular for signing with the Yankees, I still have to give him props. I mean the dude hit 400 homeruns faster than any human being. Spectators tend to forget that he is only 29. That makes him four years older than yours truly, and only two or three years older than most of the other Rotogods. Well everyone except Father Time of course. He turned the switch when God said “Let there be light.”
My Take: ARod is still a top option at third and will be all year long. If you did not know that then maybe you should not be here.
Tim Hudson
Hudson was just placed on the 15 day disabled list by the Hotlanta Braves. The strained left oblique forced him to leave early in his last start after pitching two and one third innings.
My take: This does not bode well for Hudson owners. It is the second straight year that Hudson has strained an oblique. Recurring injuries are not something any fantasy owner wants to hear, especially when it sidelined your pitcher for six weeks last season. Keep an eye out for updated information on Hudson’s condition.
THE RANDOM
Music
Gods and Gangsters mixtape by Self Scientific is highly recommended by Furious. It features the likes of Talib Kweli, Planet Asia, Phil the Agony, Krondon, and numerous other mc’s. DJ Khalil provides solid beat production and is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Check the album if you like hip-hop.
Weather
It was about 50 degrees in Bean today, and I loved every minute of it. Of course this freakishly cold weather can only signify two things: a quick transition to fall (and winter) or the end of the world.
The Gym
I was at the gym on Tuesday and this girl tried to kill me … literally. I am doing some free weight squats, and this girl asks to work in. Now I already have 225 on the bar, so I turn to her and ask, “Do you want me to take some weight off?” She declines and proceeds to keep pace with me until we get up to 325 lbs. When I say keep up, this girls was snapping out sets of ten at 275 and 315 pounds with little trouble. So the guys must know exactly what I was thinking at that moment, “There is no way I am going to let this girl out-squat me!” I am happy to report that she only completed six squats at 325 to my eight. I am unhappy to report that my legs and back are still sore.
The Bottom Line: Sometimes you just have to reconcile the fact that a female’s legs might be stronger than yours. Doing so will save you a lot of pain in the long run.
Well folks, I think it is about time to wrap this puppy up. Furious is still looking for a suitor for fantasy football. I was not going to do fantasy football this year, but I refuse to be a one trick pony like Worm. Really, I am doing it for you all … The People. I apologize for the lengthy offering, but sometimes there are many things to address. Do not begin to confuse me with resident windbags Tivo and Xach. I am off to gym to lift with homegirl again. No legs, just arms and chest this morning. Hopefully a repeat performance will not occur. Or, if I am lucky, maybe there will be some mutual massage action afterward. Have a good one and, as always, try to keep it hate-free this Friday.

Could we have the first gooey oblique on our hands? Way to go Timmy Hud!
Oh, and the part of Zod will now be played by Omar Vizquel! Kneel!
