The Morning Offering - March 15, 2005

Written by Ricky on March 15, 2005

Good morning. Well, not so good actually. It would be much better if I didn't have to work. Work sucks. Especially when I actually have to do it. It's not that bad when I can sit around and post on the message board all day, but actually having to do shit is just not cool. (is unhappy).

Office Fool
Speaking of work, here's a funny story: I work at a law firm, and, like most businesses, we have an office pool for March Madness. Usually, it's run through someone in the mailroom, and you just have to ask around. Today, though, someone sent a firmwide email with a link to a website that, he said, would be used for the firm pool, and saying that the $5 entry fee was due in his office by Wednesday afternoon. Less than 5 minutes later, another email popped into my inbox. It said something like "Due to the Firm's policies the pool will no longer be taking place. I apologize for the inconvenience." Somebody's in twouble!!!

Antoine Who?
Like Xach, I'm part of the Rotogods Boston contingent, and a die hard Boston (especially Sox) fan, but I live in New York. I moved here in '99, and there were some very rough sports years. When the Pats won though, things started looking up, and the last few months have been fantastic. I even have my "Hey New York, Who's Your Daddy Now?" t-shirt that I'm jonesing to wear to the Stadium. So what does this rambling have to do with anything? Well, I'll tell you what. I haven't seen a Celtics game in weeks. From what I hear, they've been playing great, but I wouldn't know. I don't have the NBA package, and I've been working a lot, and they're just not on that much in NYC. It sucks and it stinks and it sucks. But the bars are open till 4. So there's that.

The Ides of March
What is it, March 15th? Jesus, is baseball season ever going to start? Thank God for March Madness. At least that will be something to distract me. Due to the genius of the Powers That Be, we drafted our baseball league a couple weeks after Christmas, it seems, and all I can do is look at fucking spring training box scores and read player updates about Xach's players getting hurt. No good. But, come Thursday, the Madness will be here, and will carry us through nicely to Opening day.

Rick's pick of the day: Paul Byrd. See the note in the MLB player update section. Plus, he's on my team.

Drop him like he's hot...wait...you wouldn't want to drop someone who was hot...hmm...Drop him like he sucks? Sounds good: Everyone on Xach's team. Xach has Prior, Wood, Mauer and more. Everyone on his team is in grave danger. Drop them all immediately. (Feel free to email me for Xach's roster).

Till next time, (unless I forget) the Yankees suck.

Uh, it sounds like you are obsessed with this Xach character, maybe you should get off his balls and come up with a line of humor that doesn't involve completely sandbagging and dickriding your boy.

But making fun of Xach's team never gets old.

The unbiased observer is funny.

I feel you on the 'when will the baseball season start' thing. Damn, when?

Your first story is funny. At my old job, the publisher totally encouraged gambling for money, he wanted in on any action, but often reminded people not to use company e-mail to do so and once had to enforce a suspension because some guy ran a weekly football pool in the office that paid out like $100 a week. And some chick that had been fired told on him.

My only other observation is that I felt like reading your bio, and I know you probably had some great writer work on it, say three-and-a-half months ago maybe, and yet when I click the link, it still isn't showing up. Weird.

That is strange. I remember another great writer doing a bio for the Junky....and still nothing. Odd.

Wow Rick, that first guy really ripped you a new asshole.
